Responsibilities
The Medical and Allied Health Sciences Services Unit is the head of all clinical departments at Huye Isange Rehabilitation Center. It is responsible for the overall coordination, organization, and supervision of healthcare services, ensuring that all clinical activities related to mental health and substance use disorder treatment are delivered in a structured, efficient, and patient-centered manner.
The unit manages clinical staff across different disciplines, coordinates daily hospital activities, and ensures smooth collaboration between departments such as psychiatry, psychology, nursing, and other allied health services. It also plays a key role in ensuring quality of care by monitoring clinical performance, supporting adherence to treatment protocols, and promoting safe and effective patient management.
In addition, the unit is responsible for capacity building through continuous training, supervision, and mentorship of healthcare professionals and interns. It supports knowledge development, clinical skill improvement, and professional growth within the institution.
Furthermore, the unit drives continuous improvement of clinical services by promoting evidence-based practices, teamwork, and innovation in care delivery. It ensures that patients receive comprehensive, coordinated, and high-quality treatment aimed at recovery, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into the community.
Dr. UWACU Solange
Clinical Director
Dr. UWACU Solange is a psychiatrist who graduated from the University of Rwanda in 2025. She completed a four-year psychiatric residency specialization, with intensive clinical rotations at Ndera Neuropsychiatric Teaching Hospital and the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK), where she gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of mental health disorders.
Since January 2026, she has been working as a Psychiatrist at Huye Isange Rehabilitation Center, where she provides care for individuals with substance use disorders and other mental health conditions. In addition to her clinical duties, she serves as the Clinical Director of the center, overseeing clinical services and supporting the coordination of multidisciplinary care.
In this leadership role, she collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, respectful, and evidence-based prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services for individuals affected by substance and behavioral use disorders. The care approach is patient-centered, aiming to improve health outcomes, restore hope, strengthen independence, and enhance quality of life.
She also recognizes the essential role of families in the recovery process and promotes their involvement through emotional support, non-judgmental engagement, and participation in family therapy. This supportive family environment significantly improves recovery outcomes and reduces the risk of relapse.
